Christmas Budgeting

Nov 25, 2022

When it comes to Budgeting, Christmas always seems to get the short end of the stick. As we are managing our money, we cut extra spending and that includes gifts. This is actually a good way to reduce expenses, but I know human behavior better than most.

What this does is give us a temporary relief for the month we are working on, but then when the Holidays come around, we go out and spend money on gifts, parties, food, and other things that make the Holidays feel special to us anyway. This just sets us back, AND creates massive guilt and shame - and this is the opposite of what I try to accomplish for my clients and members.

The best way to avoid this is to have a secondary budget inside of our normal budget each December. When it comes to Christmas, we need to be contributing to our Anticipation account each month to save toward our Christmas fund.

Then, we should have a small and simple Christmas budget that breaks down how much we intend to spend on gifts, decorations, events, parties, food, etc.
