20 years ago I got a raise. And I was so happy at first, but it made my financial situation worse than it was before!

I didn't know how to view and manage my money well at the time so I viewed the raise as "free money". I did what most people do when they get a raise at work. Go out and spend it. I bought a car that cost me more money each month than I was getting with the raise! Have you ever done something similar?

In order to change our results, we need to change the way we think about money. Do some simple math, make a plan, and stick to it. If I stopped for just a minute to make a plan rather than act on impulse, I would have been able to take that raise to make my situation better, not worse.
